The Team
Katie Carroll
|
Katie is a senior in aerospace engineering and is very excited to be the technical project manager for the NASA Micro-g NExT Challenge this year. Over this past summer, Katie worked as an intern at SpaceX on the Government Mission Management team. Before that, she interned at NASA JPL in their Guidance, Navigation, and Control group and at The Aerospace Corporation in their Systems Integration and Test Office. Outside of ISS, Katie is heavily involved with Women in Aerospace, the CARE tutoring program, and is an ELA for the aerospace department. Katie is also part of the Illini Strings Orchestra and enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and playing chess. She is thrilled to see what all of the tech groups will accomplish this year!

Noah Henricks
|
Noah Henricks is a sophomore majoring in aerospace engineering and is the safety liaison for this year's team. He joined Micro-G NExT because he is interested in astronauts and the design process that goes through the creation of tools. He has helped design and used CAD to help model the tool. Besides Micro-g, Noah has participated in Space Grant and Student Launch. In his free time, Noah enjoys playing sports and video games with his friends.

Harriet Hunt

Harriet Hunt is a freshman in Aerospace Engineering and is the detection lead for Micro-g. Besides being on Micro-g, Harriet is the Engineering Council Representative for Illinois Space Society. She calls home Naperville, IL, but her family is from Australia. Some of her passions include tennis, math, and the X-MEN. Two things Harriet would like to achieve in the future is to work for NASA and be on the TV show "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?"

George Petrov is a freshman in Aerospace Engineering and is the covering sub-team lead on the Micro-g team. He joined the team because due to his fascination by the day to day actions of astronauts in space. Outside of Micro-g and Illinois Space Society, he likes to play soccer, watch Formula 1, and eat Bulgarian food. In the future, George would like to travel to all continents and be apart of the missions to Mars.

Rahil Makadia
|
Rahil Makadia is a sophomore studying Aerospace Engineering. He works on the Design team for the Micro-g competition. He joined the team because he is fascinated by spaceflight and the challenges associated with it. In his free time, he plays a lot of video games and watches a lot of soccer. In the future, he plans on travelling to both poles at least once.

Zana Essmyer
|
Zana Essmyer is a sophomore studying Aerospace Engineering. She works on the detection sub-team for the UIUC Micro-g team. She joined the team because she is interested in spacecraft and hopes to one day work for NASA. Outside of school, Zana practices Taekwondo and ballet, loves to paint, and is a dog socializer for the Champaign Humane Society.

Spencer Murdoch

Spencer Murdoch is a sophomore majoring in Aerospace Engineering. He is apart of the covering subteam. He joined the team to learn more about design and enjoys hands-on work. Aside from Micro-g, he enjoys going to sporting events, playing sports and video games, spending time with friends, and eating good food.

Gable is a Sophomore in Aerospace Engineering major and he loves his dog, Mabel. He is excited to be on the team this year!

Edward Taylor
|
Edward Taylor is a junior in Physics studying on a year abroad from the University of Birmingham in the UK. He is part of the detection and testing team for Micro-g, as well as head of ECLSS for the RASC-AL team and is working on R&D for the Illini Hyperloop project. In his spare time Edward sings in the Oratorio choir, plays squash, travels and listens to Audiobooks.

Justin Herman
|
Justin Herman is a freshman studying aerospace engineering. He is a member of the covering sub-team for Micro-g NExT. His main reasons for joining the team were to have increased exposure to hands-on engineering and to have the chance to work on a tool that may one day be on the International Space Station. He is from La Grange Park, IL and likes to play video games and write. In the future, he hopes to have a part in building a spacecraft and maybe even visit space.

Dominik Jaskowski

Dominik Jaskowski is a sophomore in Aerospace Engineering. He is part of the Micro G detection team. He is from Lockport, Illinois, but his parents immigrated from Poland. Some of his hobbies include writing, photography, and drawing. So far, he has joined four different clubs on campus, including ISS, the Sailing Club, the Climbing Club, and an improv club called Subatomic Pigeon Improv.

David Robbins

David Robbins is a Freshman in Aerospace Engineering. He is on both Micro-G NExT and Space Grant. He joined both teams because he loves building things. David is from Carterville, Illinois. In his spare time, David enjoys bowling, playing tennis, golfing, fishing, and curling. Two of David’s dreams are to become the Classic Tetris World Champion and to work for NASA.

Karnap Patel

Karnap is a freshman in aerospace engineering and pursuing a computer science minor. He is a member of the NASA Space Grant team and Micro-g NExT. He wants to stay active in ISS through its many programs, such as the mentorship and educational outreach programs. In addition, he took the ISS Intro to Rocketry course. Outside of the classroom, he loves to play Ultimate Frisbee and kickback with some video games

Emily Williams

Emily is a sophomore in aerospace engineering and is excited to be part of Micro-g this year. She joined because she is really interested in astronauts and satellite development. She is heavily involved with Women in Aerospace and the Laboratory for Advanced Space Systems at Illinois.
